Most of us have grown up with Indian moms telling us not to shave because of some random reasons. So, it’s natural for us to have doubts and questions like ‘Should women even shave?’, ‘Does shaving make your hair thick?’, ‘Does it make the skin dark?’. Well, in this blog, I’ll be answering all these questions. I’m also going to share some tips if you’re planning to start shaving. So, stay tuned and keep reading ahead!

So, my shaving journey started back in 2018 when I visited my dermatologist and he suggested me to shave rather than wax my skin. And I realized that it is the most painless and quickest form of hair removal so why not do it all over my body! Since then, I haven’t looked at waxing ever again.

How to avoid razor cuts, razor burns, ingrown hair, and strawberry legs?

So, this is the most common question that is asked. The answer to all of these is shaving the right way! If you shave the right way, none of this is going to happen. I recommend you use a razor that is meant for women. There are tons of them available in the market. Most of them are made for sensitive skin. So that’s definitely a thumbs up for me.

The next thing that you need is the shaving foam. Now if you don’t have the budget for shaving foam, you can always use soap, shower gel, or a conditioner to create the lather. But it is definitely a smart thing to invest in shaving foam. The reason being that it creates a very good barrier between your skin and the blade of the razor. So, it reduces the chances of getting cuts on the skin.

Always shave in the opposite direction of the hair growth while shaving hands and legs. But in the case of underarms, you need to shave both downwards and upwards. You also need to make sure that the cartridge of the razor is flexible to get a closer shave, especially along the contours of the body like knees, ankles, elbows, and even underarms. Also, don’t apply too much pressure on your skin, and don’t dig too much deep into it. Just do it very lightly. You also need to rinse your razor after every few shaves because the hair keeps getting clogged between the blades.

After shaving, you got to moisturize your skin. Moisturizing is super important for healthy skin if you are shaving on a regular basis. Well, shaving is no rocket science but you do need to keep all these things in mind before you start shaving. You can get all the desired shaving products from TrueGether which is the best alternative to Shopify!

Does shaving darker your skin?

This, too, is a very commonly asked question and the answer to it is yes and no. When you continuously shave, the skin goes through friction and trauma so its way to defend itself is to become thicker. When the skin becomes thicker it becomes slightly darker or hyperpigmented. You can avoid it if you shave correctly.

Does the hair come out thicker?

Well, the answer to this is No! The only thing is that when you wax, you pull out the entire hair follicle from the roots. But when you shave, only the upper part of the hair is getting cut. So, the hair, which is slightly thicker under the skin, comes out in that blunted manner only which makes it feel like the hair has become thicker. But it’s your normal usual hair and nothing has changed about it.

Pros and Cons of Shaving

  1. It is quick and painless.
  2. You don’t need to wait for your appointments to get your waxing done.
  3. It is a pocket-friendly and one-time investment, unlike waxing.
  4. Razor is portable and you can carry it anywhere, anytime.

  1. Not shaving properly results in razor cuts, ingrown hair, strawberry legs, etc.
  2. Not good for VERY sensitive skin.

But having said that, I highly recommend shaving to you guys. I hope you found this article informative, interesting, and turned out to be helpful to you.

Happy Shaving!
